The possibility of a third installment of the popular musical Mamma Mia! (2008) being filmed has gained renewed media attention thanks to recent statements by Amanda Seyfried. Although the actress, who plays Sophie in the dub, has admitted to being tired of franchises, she has stated that she would be willing to return to the most famous Greek island in film without a second thought .
During a conversation with actress Rachel Brosnahan published in Interview Magazine , Seyfried stated emphatically: "I would do Mamma Mia 3 in a heartbeat." Fans have been waiting for a third installment of the musical saga inspired by the hits of ABBA since the premiere of Mamma Mia! Again and Again (2018).

However, Seyfried has criticized the proliferation of sequels in the industry, and considers this project an exception : "I want original content. Doing sequels isn't very brave; they're just made for money, and that frustrates me."
Seyfried's enthusiasm isn't new. She had already expressed her willingness to reprise the role of Sophie in March, noting that the initiative rests primarily with Universal . "Judy Craymer is always working on it, but Universal has yet to release Wicked 2 . They seem to have a firm grasp on us doing it, so they're in no rush," she told The Hollywood Reporter at the time.
For pure pleasureTo denote her own excitement about a possible third part, the Les Misérables actress confessed to Vogue in 2023 that she would be willing to do it for free : "I hate to say it, but of course I would do it for free. However, this is a business, and it has to be fair."
The possible sequel to Mamma Mia! continues to generate headlines, especially after Meryl Streep also expressed her openness to returning , even though her character in the film has already passed away, according to Deadline .
At the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, the actress confessed that there are ideas on the table, although she doesn't yet know the details. For her part, Universal president Donna Langley has acknowledged the studio's interest , though without offering official confirmation. With anticipation growing and the leading ladies already in place, a third installment seems increasingly a question of "when" rather than "how."
